The summer is over and we meet again at the preschool, looking forward to another year filled with new friendships and fun experiences. The classrooms have been carefully prepared and will turn again into vibrant and inspiring environments where Montessori materials become alive in the hands of the children.
In Practical Life we are going to explore the rules of table setting and dining etiquette, develop our personal care and hygiene skills, and learn to prepare a snack and to clean up after ourselves. We will also learn how to take care of our classroom environment and be a valuable member of our classroom community. Kindness and
politeness are qualities that are important to us. Our preschool is built on the principles of respect for self, others and our environment.
In Sensorial we will notice details in our surroundings to develop our senses. We will work with surfaces, colors, weight, balance, sounds, smells and tastes during the year. Our senses will awaken and become more refined.
We follow individualized learning plans in Mathematics to accommodate each child. We will introduce various mathematical concepts and develop basic mathematics skills and explore the relationships between size, length and quantity during the school year. We will work with numbers and mathematical operations and also focus
on themes such as time, measuring, the calendar, and the value of money.
The Language area will cover self-expression and communication. In addition to individual development of reading and writing skills, we will introduce concepts of logical thinking, such as comparison of the same vs. different qualities, determination of sizes, and associations. Our vocabulary will grow with each season and subject
included in the educational framework.
We will reminisce our summer holidays and the places we visited, both in the Czech Republic and abroad, in Cosmic Education. We will walk around the preschool building, draw up maps, and come to see that a map is, in fact, a picture of something “real”. We will learn to take care of the plants in our classroom and garden, and learn to recognize different kinds of fruits and vegetables.
In Art we will focus on basic skills such as the use of scissors, glue, water colors and temperas, use our imagination and explore the unlimited possibilities of artistic expression.
The educational framework for the year is broken up into monthly themes of which we will inform you every month. Our three-year Montessori cycle allows each child to build up comprehensive knowledge. The depth of the study of individual subjects depends on each child’s age and the preferences of the classroom community.
Every Friday morning we have Sharing on the ellipse. The children may bring photographs or objects related to the theme of the given month. We will also be happy to welcome you, the parents, on the ellipse during the year to share your experiences with and introduce your hobbies/work to the children.
We look forward to a fun school year full of shared experiences, exploring and joy of learning.
